3 Panoramas

I’ve been experimenting with making panorama & larger composite images lately. I really like the look that I’ve been getting with taking multiple photos and stitching them together for larger files. The larger multiple photo composite images just seem to have a greater depth and detail to them (similar to what you could achieve with medium or large format film photography) than a standard single 35mm format size photo of the same scene. I will definitely be experimenting more with this in the near future.

Wild Turkeys At Cantigny Park

There is a group of wild turkeys that have been hanging out at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL for a while now. The turkeys liked to stick to the more shaded areas of the park, which made getting pictures of them difficult. I ended up following the turkeys all over the place trying to get them in the best light to show off the colors & patterns of their feathers.

Thunderstorm Sunset

The clouds opened briefly & let in some amazing light at sunset during a thunderstorm. This storm was pretty nasty & I wasn’t planning on taking any photos of it, but when the clouds parted & let in some golden light I ran out to my backyard & took some photos until the light died away. I just wish I would have been at a better location to get a landscape shot.

Great Blue Herons Nest Building

When I was at the Churhill Woods Forest Preserve observing the great egret and great blue heron rookery I kept seeing the same bird flying back and forth to the same group of trees that was separate from the main rookery. I decided to follow the great blue heron and find out what it was up to. As it turned out the great blue heron was flying back and forth collecting sticks and branches to bring to it’s mate to build their nest. I had a lot of fun watching and photographing all of the action as the great blue heron would fly back and forth selecting the best parts for it’s nest and upon returning to it’s nest the bird’s mate would take the recently supplied branch and carefully place it to build up it’s nest. Sometimes the birds seemed to celebrate in approval of a good branch becoming part of their nest.
