This wood duck has been hanging around with this female mallard at the Riverwalk in Naperville, IL. The wood duck has become very protective of this female mallard and will not let any of the other ducks come close to her. More pictures of this wood duck can be seen on My Flickr page.

I captured this picture of a juvenile Bald Eagle flying near the Mooseheart eagle nest in Batavia, IL.
Four more photos from the Great Blue Heron rookery located within the Danada Forest Preserve.
Enjoy!

Great Blue Herons are one of the bird species that really remind me of how closely related birds are to their dinosaur ancestors. I think these in flight photos really show of the primal looks of the Great Blue Heron.
Here are a few pictures from the Great Blue Heron Rookery (fyi: a rookery is a breeding colony of birds) located within the Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton, IL.
A Great Blue Heron makes a tough landing at the very top of a tree in the Danada Forest Preserve.

I went to the Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve specifically to find Wood Ducks. For a while I wasn’t having any luck finding these ducks, but then a couple showed up in the trees.

This has to be one of (if not the) fattest Robins that I have ever seen. There are a couple extra pictures of this guy on My Flickr Photostream.
